Face Shields

To protect frontline health care workers
from COVID-19

Health Care Workers protected

In the past few weeks we've been working with different medical professionals to create a Face Shield that would help them in their different tasks. With 3D Printers, CNC Machines and other equipment we can make hundreds of Face Shields a day with the help of our dedicated community of volunteers!

If you need PPE face shields for your hospital or for other medical institutions, tell us using the form below!

Every day, our team works with medical professionals to improve the face shields. Our designs are used by over 20 different institutions in Ottawa and its surroundings and we are licensed by Health Canada to manufacture and distribute the face shields. We will try to do our best to get them to you as fast as possible, but please note that it might take a few days to process and print the face shields.

When using the Face Shields please follow these cleaning procedures :

Melting temperatures for the visor as well as the headband are relatively low, therefore cleaning with an autoclave or an automated machine are not recommended.

Here is a manual process that has been tested and approved by a local Ottawa hospital:
  1. Clean the mask in an enzymatic solution with a soft cloth
  2. Let it soak for 2 minutes
  3. Rinse with clean water
  4. Spray it with alcohol
  5. Wipe it with a soft cloth
  6. Dry
  7. Repeat procedure after every use

In the past few weeks, we have been iterating the face shields to get the best version possible for the workers. Here are images of the different versions. We now have 3 versions available.

The different versions

First, the easiest thing that you can do to help with the COVID-19 pandemic is to stay home unless you absolutely need to. If you need to please follow the social distancing policies (2 meters or 6 feet from everyone).

Second, if you can make a donation. Please do. Anything can help.

Another way you can help out if you have a 3D Printer is to print some parts for the Face Shields. The steps are available below.

Steps for 3D Printing

  1. Download the STL File (Please print the Glued Version right now) and make sure you can print it (Dimension, Quality...).
  2. Print them while making sure you use gloves when touching the parts so they are NOT contaminated. Please also check that the print is free of cracks and that quality is acceptable!
  3. Use this form to let us know that you printed some and how we should get them (Pickup or Drop Off)
  4. You can now give them to us by one of these two options :
    • We can pick them up : We will coordinate with volunteers to come, we will send you a pickup time, you will need to put the box outside to reduce human interactions.
    • You can drop them off between 11am and 8pm daily, We will have a box at the main entrance of STEM Complex (160 Louis-Pasteur Private). If you want to drop off another time please send an email to Midia ([email protected]).
  5. We will then assemble them and send them to different medical facilities in the region!
  6. Thanks for your help! If you want to do more, go ahead, we will be more than happy to get some help!
